Unfortunately, Autumn is a season that can often be overlooked, but actually, it is the perfect season for the most vibrant scenery and unique activities that you can do. So, if you are stuck for things to do in the Italian Alps, no need to worry, we have got you covered on a list of activities you can get involved in. So without further ado, here is our list:
HIKE WHILE THE LEAVES CHANGE COLOURS
Possibly one of the most vibrant times of the year, with hues of sienna and ochre adorning the Italian countryside, it is the perfect moment to take out your camera and take a snap of the breathtaking colours that appear in this time of year. Stay at an Alpine Hotel, and head out to the wilderness to hike among the towering evergreens. Mushrooms grow throughout the year; however, they are particularly plentiful during the Autumn season. Many tourists and locals make their way into the forests and forage through the undergrowth in an attempt to find porcini mushrooms. Fortunately , the gourmet Porcini mushroom is very abundant in our area of Corteno Golgi, and we often harvest them for our restaurant menu. If you didn’t know, September is known as ‘Mushroom Month’, so we have created a culinary series dedicated to porcini recipes like Porcini Risotto and Porcini Mushroom Soup, be sure to check it out!
TRAIN RIDE THROUGH THE ALPS
If you can’t make up your mind whether to visit the Swiss Alps or Italian Alps, then taking a train ride through these two countries is the best compromise. Miramonti offers a shuttle bus to Tirano, where you can board the Bernina Express towards the Alps -crossing the mountains and landing in gorgeous Swiss towns like St. Moritz. You will be able to have stunning views in unique routes like the Landwasser viaduct and the Brusio circular viaduct.
There are seasonal-specific events that occur during Autumn that are worth attending. As you would imagine, Northern Italy is full of culture and customs that are so unique and special that they cannot be replicated anywhere else. One of these events is ‘Transhumance’; this is an event where farmers guide their livestock from the high altitudes of the Alps return down to the valleys. So you might be able to find cows or sheep walking through the towns during this time, a unique sight to see! There are also many other events that include the World Cheese Awards and Sagra del Torrone.
There are a variety of sports that can be done in the Alps even during the milder seasons of Autumn. Head over to the Aprica Resort to try E-biking through the mountainous terrain of the Alps. You can also try a fun group activity like White Water Rafting in the Agua Rafting Centre, just a 40-50-minute drive from our hotel! Or once the season has gone even colder, head over to Adamello to ski on the glaciers
ESCAPE TO THE ITALIAN LAKES
Lombardy is also known as the Lake Region of Italy, with well-known lakes like Lake Como and Lake Garda located in the area, it is a beautiful place to visit. Countless tourists visit the lakes for their summer holidays; however, they do not realise how beautiful they can be even in the Autumn season. With autumnal hues embellishing the forests and gardens, it is a marvellous spectacle that you shouldn’t miss. From there, you can take a ferry to visit different towns surrounding the lake – each with their own unique charm. You will be able to find countless luxury villas owned by celebrities and the wealthy standing beside the water.
